This week Governor Rauner vetoed a $215 million funding bill for CPS negotiated as part of the mid-year stop-gap budget. CPS had already included the funds in this year’s budget. The IL Senate overrode the veto, but the IL House did not take a vote on it and have now adjourned until January. The House could convene a special session to vote before January, but it's not clear they will have the 71 votes required to override.
Without this $215M, Chicago's schools already operating under austerity conditions will likely be asked to cut further.
We need your help to put pressure on the city and state elected officials to fulfill their moral obligations to provide Chicago Public Schools' students with an adequately resourced education.
Sign up here if you can help us fight for sufficient funding. In the coming weeks, we'll be making calls to elected officials, visiting legislators, door-knock our neighbors, holding rallies, etc.
