Tell Senate HELP Committee to #DumpDeVos

President-elect Trump's nominee for Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, is scheduled for a nomination hearing in the US Senate two days from now, January 11th. Call the Senate HELP Committee and tell them to oppose her nomination.

Betsy DeVos is a proponent of vouchers, for-profit charters and the use of public money for religious schools. She has not yet disclosed her possible conflicts of interest as part of the ethics review required of presidential appointees. (Read more on those conflicts of interest here.)

You can learn about what a push for vouchers at the federal level could mean for public schools in a new fact sheet from our sister org Raise Your Hand, "'School Choice' and Vouchers: What's at Stake for our Schools in Chicago and Illinois?"

The Senators on the HELP Committee need to hear from public education supporters like you that DeVos is an unacceptable choice for Secretary of Education. Script and phone numbers here.

Please take a few minutes today and tomorrow to make these calls on behalf of our public school system. Public schools, attended by 90% of American school children, are a pillar of our democracy. We need a Secretary of Education who is committed to the idea of public schools as a public good.
