Now is the time to call your alderman and tell them not to sign off on the two mega TIFs—Cortland Chicago River and Roosevelt/Clark. This isn’t just a North Side issue—taxes are raised on all of us from Rogers Park to Roseland pay for this development.
RYHA and 20 other groups delivered a letter to the Joint Review Board on Friday Jan 11 to tell CPS and other taxing bodies to reject the mega-tifs and not agree to divert hundreds of millions from their own coffers to subsidize private development in some of the most affluent parts of the city.
For the Lincoln Yards Project alone, CPS agreed to forego $477M. As expected, all the taxing bodies approved the creation of the mega TIFs, and if this passes in March or April at the city council level, taxes will be raised on Chicagoans from Rogers Park to Roseland to make up for the loss of tax dollars that will be rerouted to TIF accounts for 23 years.

Call your alderman and tell them not to sign off on the two mega TIFs—Cortland Chicago River and Roosevelt/Clark—under this administration, and instead to have the city of Chicago properly vet where they want to spend $2.4B of their tax dollars. This isn’t just a North Side issue—taxes are raised on all of us to pay for this development.
