Can you make a phone call before 11am TODAY, Monday, August 28?

Last week the planned vote on overriding the SB1 veto was postponed. Then the four legislative leaders said that a tentative compromise was reached, and the House would vote on it on Monday 8/28.

Details are still emerging, but it looks like the compromise will include diverting $75M dollars to private schools in the form of tax credits to wealthy donors. Read our statement on this here.

It's simply unacceptable to insert a scheme that defunds public schools into a public school funding bill.

Has your state rep publicly stated that you can count on them to vote NO on a compromise that includes a voucher scheme?

Call (or call again!) and say: Vouchers are a deal breaker, not a deal maker. Public schools need you to override Gov. Rauner’s veto of SB1.

Hearing this from you, their constituent, is crucial. The long-term, financial viability of our public school system depends on all of us raising our voices together -- and doing it by Monday, 8/28 at 11AM.
